ASIN Center Hosts Lecture on India’s Saltern Technicalities with Dr. Bhoomi Andharia

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan — The 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘁 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 (𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗡) 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿 hosted a lecture by 𝘿𝙧. 𝘽𝙝𝙤𝙤𝙢𝙞 𝘼𝙣𝙙𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖 titled “𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗮: 𝗢𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀,” on October 29, 2025, at the Golden Lion Hotel, Lingayen, Pangasinan, as part of her Day 3 visit to the Philippines.

The activity formed part of the Department of Science and Technology Region I’s (DOST R1) initiative to strengthen international collaboration and knowledge exchange in support of the 𝘿𝙊𝙎𝙏 𝙉𝙞𝙘𝙝𝙚 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨 𝙞𝙣 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙍&𝘿 (𝙉𝙄𝘾𝙀𝙍) 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙜𝙧𝙖𝙢, under which the ASIN Center is being implemented. Dr. Andharia’s visit aimed to advance research linkages and share India’s best practices in salt production to help modernize and strengthen the Philippines’ local salt industry.

The program opened with welcome remarks from 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘆, 𝗩𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, 𝗘𝘅𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 of the Pangasinan State University (PSU), followed by the introduction of Dr. Andharia by 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗿. 𝗥𝗲𝘅 𝗕𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗲𝗹, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝟮 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 of the 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗡𝗜𝗖𝗘𝗥 𝗔𝗦𝗜𝗡 𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿.

In her presentation, Dr. Andharia shared insights into India’s salt production processes and technicalities, as well as the initiatives of the 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 & 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵–𝗖𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗮𝗹𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗵𝗲𝗺𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘁𝘂𝘁𝗲 (𝗖𝗦𝗜𝗥-𝗖𝗦𝗠𝗖𝗥𝗜) in Bhavnagar, India, highlighting innovation, sustainability, and global collaboration. She also emphasized the institute’s partnerships with several countries aimed at advancing the efficiency and quality of salt production worldwide.

An engaging open forum followed, where saltmakers, researchers, and local officials exchanged insights on adapting India’s practices to strengthen the Philippine salt industry.

𝗣𝗦𝗨 𝗣𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗗𝗿. 𝗘𝗹𝗯𝗲𝗿𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗮𝘀 expressed his appreciation to DOST Region I and its partner institutions for organizing the learning engagement, emphasizing that such activities demonstrate PSU’s strong commitment to supporting the government’s thrust toward a more competitive and self-sustaining salt industry through research and innovation.
Meanwhile, 𝗗𝗿. 𝗥𝗮𝘇𝗲𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗮𝘆 extended her gratitude to DOST Region I and Dr. Bhoomi Andharia for sharing her time and expertise with the local researchers. She highlighted that the exchange reinforces PSU’s collaboration with the DOST NICER Program and its continuing efforts to build local capacities in sustainable salt production.

The lecture concluded with closing remarks from 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗿. 𝗔𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗼𝘀, 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗢𝗦𝗧 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗦𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗢𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗲 (𝗣𝗦𝗧𝗢)–𝗣𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻, who expressed appreciation for the participants’ active involvement and continued support for salt research and innovation.
